The Faculty of Arts is excited to launch HKU’s first gender studies major/minor starting September 2018. Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary programme. Core classes will be in the Faculty of Arts, but students may select approved courses from across the University.
Gender Studies includes gender relations and identities, women and sexualities, and as a category of analysis, gender intersects with other categories of social difference, such as race, ethnicity, social class and ability to interrogate cultural production, structures of knowledge and systems of power.
Programme Director, Dr. Elizabeth LaCouture (elac@hku.hk) will be offering two required courses: GEND2002 Gender, race, and beauty in semester 1 and GEND1001 Introduction to Gender Studies in semester 2. The Gender Studies Programme welcomes students interested in the major/minor to enroll in these classes.
